wireless network printer sharing

can anyone help me with printer and file sharing over a wireless network?
From my desktop computer, I can open files from my laptop, but I cant open files from my desktop on my laptop even though file sharing is on, and I have specifically selected certain files to be shared. On my laptop, I cannot see the desktop in workgroup computers and cannot find the printer connected to my desktop. perhaps a firewall problem? I tried shutting them off already but for now I will continue trying to disable security until i get some help.
I duno how to solve your problem ,but you 'd better encrypt your files at first ,or they' ll be dangerous.
