How I can make a PC / Laptop XP / Vista work together through a wireless router using the same printer?

I have a PC with Windows XP connected to a wireless router and a printer. I just purchased a laptop with a wireless card and I want to connect a PC, laptop and printer work with the laptop as a wireless network.

You should be able to print to any printer on your network, even if it is connected to another machine. machines XP should be able to simply share the printer from the machine that is associated with that. If the machine with the printer is Windows XP and the other has Windows Vista, which has to do a bit more than that. Try this: 1.The XP machine, configure the printer for sharing in the Printers and Faxes dialog box. 2.In the Vista machine, reach Add Printer Wizard dialog box. 3.Click Add a local printer. (Yes, I know it's on the network, but trust me.) 4.Click the button Create a new port radio. Leave the type set port Local Port. 5.Click the Next button. 6.In port name text box, type the name of the printer with another machine Name (eg Machine Bob Bob printer). 7.Click OK. Sorry, but I have not tried to share a printer on a Vista machine with an XP machine. Hope that helps.

Help with my home network (linksys router, network printer, laptop wireless, VoIP, cabling Windows server)?

I have fixed IP addresses for the VOIP and network printer. I deals with static DNS settings for three devices (server, printer, VOIP), and things seemed to be fine. That said, when the lease time expired devices took different directions and my whole network was a disaster. Is there a way to lease time to infinity? Am I approaching this wrong (not my logic)? Note: static ips are outside the DHCP range.

You set the direction Static IP on the device, not the DHCP server. Configuration (pseudo-static IP addresses in the DHCP server is not the right thing to do, if your router allows it.)

Easy ways to install wi-fi at home

easy way to configure a wifi connection at home.

Introduction About Wireless.

If you've been in an airport, cafe, library or hotel recently, as chances are you have been right in the middle of a wireless network. Many people also use wireless networking, also called Wi-Fi or 802.11 networking, to connect their href = "http://www.discountsvu.com"> computers at home, and some cities are trying to use technology to provide free or low cost Internet access residents. In the near future, wireless networking can be so widespread that you can access the Internet almost anywhere at any time, without cables.

WiFi has a lot of advantages. Wireless networks are easy to install and inexpensive. They are also unobtrusive - unless you are looking for a place to use your laptop, you can not even tell when you are in an access point. In this article we will see the technology that allows information to travel air. We will also review what it takes to create a wireless network at home.

What is WiFi?

A mobile network uses radio waves, like cell phones, televisions and radios do. In fact, communication across a wireless network is very similar in both directions by radio communication. This is what happens: the computer's wireless adapter translates data into a radio signal and transmits it with an antenna.

A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet via a physical connection, Ethernet cabling. The process also works in reverse, with the information they receive from the router, translate into a radio signal and sending it to the wireless adapter team. The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices. They can transmit and receive radio waves, and they can convert 1s and 0s into radio waves and convert the radio waves back into 1s and 0s. But the WiFi radios have a few notable differences from other radios:

They transmit at frequencies of 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz This frequency is considerably higher than the frequencies used for cellular phones, walkie-talkies and televisions. The higher frequency allows the signal to carry more data.

They use 802.11 networking standards, which come in several flavors: 802.11a transmits at 5 GHz and can move up to 54 megabits of data per second. It also uses orthogonal frequency division multiplexing a more efficient coding technique that splits the radio signal into several sub-signals before they reach a receiver. This dramatically reduces interference.

802.11b standard is slower and less expensive. For a while, its cost made it popular, but now is becoming less common as faster standards become less expensive. 802.11b transmits in the frequency band 2.4 GHz spectrum. It can handle up to 11 megabits of data per second, and uses complementary code key (CCK) to improve the speed of modulation.

transmits at 2.4 GHz 802.11g and 802.11b, but is much faster - it can handle up to 54 megabits of data per second. 802.11g is faster because it uses the same encoding OFDM like 802.11a.

802.11n is the new standard that is widely available. This standard significantly improves the speed and scope. For example, although theoretically 802.11g moves 54 megabits of data per second, which only reaches a real rate of about 24 megabits of data per second, due to network congestion. 802.11n, however, reportedly can reach speeds of up to 140 megabits per second. The standard is currently in draft form - the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) intend to formally ratify 802.11n by the end of 2009.

Other 802.11 standards focus on specific applications of wireless networks, such as wide area networks (WAN) inside vehicles or technology that lets you switch from one wireless network to another seamlessly.WiFi radios can transmit on any of the three frequency bands. Or, they can "frequency hop" rapidly between the different bands. Frequency hopping helps reduce interference and allows devices multiple use of the wireless connection simultaneously.

Building a wireless network

How much do you know about WiFi and what it does? Test your knowledge with our WiFi Quiz! If you already have multiple computers on your home network, you can create a wireless network wireless access point. If you have multiple computers that are not networked, or if you want to replace your Ethernet network, you need a wireless router. This is one unit that contains:

A port to connect your DSL or cable modem

A router

Ethernet hub

A firewall

A mobile access point

A wireless router allows you to use wireless signals or Ethernet cables to connect their computers to each other, to a printer and the Internet. Most routers provide coverage for about 100 feet (30.5 meters) in all directions, although walls and doors can block the signal. If your house is very large, you can buy inexpensive range extenders or repeaters to increase range of your router and wireless adapters, many routers can use more of 802.11. 802.11b routers are slightly less expensive, but because the level is higher, are slower than 802.11a, 802.11g and 802.11n routers. Most people select 802.11g option for its speed and reliability.Once plugging the router should start working in its default configuration. Most routers allow you to use Web interface to change settings. You can select:

The name of the network, known as the Service Set Identifier (SSID) - The value default setting is usually the name of the manufacturer. The channel that most uses routers router - use the default channel 6. If you live in an apartment and your neighbors are using channel 6, you may experience interference. The change to a different channel to eliminate the problem. The options of your router security - Many routers use a standard publicly available log on, so it's a good idea to create their own username and password.

Safety is an important part wireless home networking, and public wireless access. If you set the router to create an open access point, anyone who has A wireless card will be able to use your signal. Most people would rather keep strangers out of your network, however. Doing so requires you to take a precautions. It few Safety 's also important to ensure that its security measures are current. The Wired Equivalency Privacy (WEP) security measure was once the standard for WAN security. The idea behind WEP was to create a wireless network security platform that would make any wireless network as secure as a traditional wired network. But hackers found vulnerabilities in the WEP approach, and today it is easy to find applications and programs that can affect the implementation a WAN WEP security.

To keep your private network, you can use one of the following methods:

WiFi Protected Access (WPA) is a step forward about WEP and is now part of the 802.11i security protocol for wireless networks. Use the temporary protocol Key Integrity (TKIP) encryption. As with WEP, WPA security involves signature with a password. Most access points are open or use WPA or 128-bit WEP technology, although some still use WEP method vulnerable.

Media Access Control (MAC) address filtering is a little different from WEP or WPA. Do not use a password to authenticate users - Using physical hardware of a computer. Each team has its own unique MAC address. MAC address filtering allows only machines with specific directions MAC to access the network. You must specify which addresses are allowed to configure your router. This method is very safe, but if you buy a new computer or if visitors want to use home network, you will need to add the new machines MAC addresses to the list of authorized addresses. The system is not infallible. A clever hacker can spoof a MAC address - that is, copy a known MAC address to fool the computer network that he or she is using belongs to the network.

Wireless networks are easy and inexpensive to install, and interfaces to most of the routers' web are almost self explanatory. For more information on how to configure and use wireless

Can I plug a USB wireless receiver for a printer to print wirelessly?

Is this possible? I have an Epson Stylus CX5000 I can not for the life of me figure out if this can be wireless or not. It has a USB port and a memory card slot. My wireless router is a Linksys WRT150N.

You can (in a roundabout way), but it needs some additional equipment. USB has a "Master" and "slave" architecture (where PC is the master and have all the intelligence, and the printer is the dumb slave). Therefore, unless you add some intelligence on the receiving side of the printer, I just sit there. What we need is a wireless print server. Most of these use their wireless Internet router (the Linksys WRT150N, where applicable). Here's an example: http://www.nextag.com/D-LINK-DLink-Systems-70081028/prices-html Connects to this print server to the printer via the USB connector, then assign the print server an IP address. Then add a "new printer" on your PC and give you the same IP address. Then, voila! Printing fi! (And if these instructions sound confusing, the instructions that come with the print server must walk through the process). We used one of these years with few problems. Occasionally I will say "please type this, and nothing happens. When this happens, I will disconnect the router print a minute, return plug it, and here we go. Beyond that, it's been great. Hope this helps.

Inkjet Printers: Handy And Affordable Even At Homes

Inkjet printers are one of the non-impact printers; it functions by propelling variably-sized drops of ink or molten material on almost any printable material. The printers use aqueous inks based on a mixture of glycol, water and dyes or pigments. The cartridges have a series of tiny electrically heated chambers build by photolithography. They are reasonably priced, very easy to use and easy to maintain.

Since the time inkjet printer was invented, color printing has become enormously popular. Research in inkjet technology is making continual advances, with each new product on the market showing improvements in performance, usability, and output quality. Inkjet printers produce high quality of color and black & white prints.

Traditionally, inkjet printer cartridges have had one massive pull over laser printers; their ability to produce color in conjunction with scaling-down on cost; is what makes them so popular with home users.

  • Considering the paper size: Home users should focus on the printers that have the A4 specification for using the printer for general usage as other printers that hold more paper size end up being larger.
  • Considering the Print Speed: Lowest print speed can actually save your Money, if you are patient and won’t be printing pages every day. Most of the people who want high speed inkjet printers are those that have their own home offices where they will use the printer for multiple purposes.
  • Considering the Extra Features: As number of homes are starting to have more than one computer; printer sharing is more of a demand because of the convenience that it brings. When connected to a wireless router, the printer can automatically be accessed wirelessly with the range depending on the router. Some of the other printers have borderless printing which means that an entire photo or image can cover any of the paper sizes that it supports.
  • Considering the Consumables: Buying an inkjet printer isn't just a single expense and there could be a possibility where you can get the cheapest printer and then end up spending more on ink cartridges. If the printer price is lower and the consumables price is high, you can still have a feasible solution. The charges of the consumables can be reduced drastically by using products by Gloima Imaging Components for ink refilling. These products give very high printing quality and at a very low price as compared to OEM cartridges. Also recycling of these products help in conserving the environment.

After considering these four general factors, you may end up with several brands to choose from. Simply do some online researches on each of the models and make the final choice based on the comments of other home users and you should end up with a nice printer that you can use whenever you need to. However remember that high consumable price should not deter your decision, as Gloima Imaging Components offer a befitting solution.

wireless printer router review

Networks are a wonderful thing. They allow people to exchange information, share resources like printers and folders, and access a common Internet connection. They used to be expensive and complicated to configure. However, and not only for networks of large companies. Now they can be setup in minutes in a small office or home.

A network by definition is two or more computers connected by the spirit of sharing data. By Therefore, each team has to have a way to receive the data and that means it's through a network card if wired or wireless. Today, most new computers (desktop or laptop) have network cards built into them. The wireless is very likely not as if already installed on computers Portable. Network Wired, however, have a Distict plug in the back of the computer, they look like telephone jacks large.

Now you may wonder, "OK, how do I connect the computers together?" Well, there must be a connection. This connection is through a router. These devices serve two purposes, a hub and gateway to the Internet. Its main objective is to take the information coming from a computer and transmitted to the receiving computer. The connections are made each team with the Ethernet cables are available in most electronics stores.

Once the computers are connected with cables to change some minor settings must be on each team. Whether you are a Mac or PC, the concept is the same. Open Network Connections and open the configuration window for the Ethernet network connection. Here you want to make sure your options are configured to use DHCP, which allows the computer to automatically obtain a network address of the router. You also want to make sure you set the server configuration DNS to be automatic. The router configuration issuing too. Repeat these steps on any other computer you want in your network.

If you choose to create a wireless network, review the instructions provided by the router manufacturer for installation and configuration of your equipment. In general, without any Additional configuration of the router, your computer should automatically find the wireless network and connect. (However, it is recommended to improve safety for external parties can not access your personal network.)

At this point, has created a grassroots network, teams can now talk to each other giving every possible access to archives and other devices. If you configure the router to the Internet, at this point you should be able to browse the Internet, in addition to the two teams.

To share folders and printers, must share the installation program on your computer. Depending on what type of computer you are using and what version of operating system, the procedure for the exchange installation is different. However, for the most part, this is a matter of creating a "share" the name of the folder or device and then connect to the folder or device of the other teams.

This is how a basic network is created in a small environment. In the wider environment, the team is bigger and generally more expensive and complicated, but the same access procedures apply.

How to Setup a Network Printer

If you are looking to start to assemble a personal home network, coming up with a plan can save money and time especially if you ever think you might expand your network in the future.

The whole point of making a plan is to come up with what you need for your network, after all there are many more things available than only having computers connect to the internet.

This includes WiFi, cables, or even both

Even though you probably only use a wired connection, will you be able to use WiFi in the future?

Just about everyone will at some point, and the difference in price between a cabled and Wireless router is tiny, and most wireless routers still have a 5 port wired hub built into them and this means you can use both wired and wireless appliances.

The whole point most people need a home network setup is to share an internet connection, in this case it's imperative that the security of each computer and the router is loaded with the latest firmware, this includes Wireless Security, Router Security & each computer must have a firewall, anti-spyware and a firewall.

Sharing your hard drive on your network is easy or need a special computer, network hard drives are so easy to operate and they most of the time have sizes from 500gb to 2tb. There is even a wireless option available.

The speed of a network can play a major factor if you send big files, truth be told a wired network will always be faster than wireless, as a rule of thumb use cabled where possible and wifi where you have to, i.e laptops.

One huge mistake made when many of us are setting up a home network in the house is planning for future expansion, saving money today just means you will have to spend more later on, work within your budget but be realistic, setup the network that suits your needs and and budget.

How do I create a wireless network with a Netgear WGR614v9 wireless router?

I have to configure a wireless network with my laptop and my computer to share the printer. My laptop is upstairs and my computer is down. I already have the laptop connected to the Internet using the router. The printer is connected to my computer via USB for i need to create a network so I can print something on the laptop through the computer.

In its written the wireless part is already up and running. You have not been in the router is on the desktop. If you can run a cat5 patch cord line of desktop to a port Router LAN has finished taking the network. If you want wireless link between the desktop and router, you need to buy a wireless network interface for desktop (either a PCI or USB style work), install, configure, similar to how you configured the wireless notebook and now has a networked desktop. Sure that share the printer that is linked to the table and then use printers and faxes - Add a printer configured in the notebook.
