Some questions about a new configuration of the computer ...?

I'll be getting my first computer for Christmas (a Dell Inspiron 518) with a monitor, printer, keyboard, mouse, speakers, graphics card (EVGA GeForce 8600 GT), the extra RAM, and a wireless receiver. I know a good number of computers so it should not have to many problems. I just never install a graphics card or RAM before, so I had a few questions: 1) Is it important to everything I log in. If so, what is? 2) For the graphics card, I download the driver from the website or from the CD that comes with it, and I must do this before or after putting the card in? 3) For the RAM, if I put it on after getting the computer up and running, or before starts the first time? If you need more information ask. Thank you.

The first thing to do is follow the instructions that come with the Dell team in its creation. However, do not connect the computer to the Internet yet. I do not know if that computer will come with restore discs, so you should immediately make a series of restore discs. These discs will allow you to install the factory-installed software and start from scratch if crimeware in the future should install itself on your computer. Then "play" with the team for a day exploring the installation and see what programs are installed. You can find software that does not want on your computer, so at this point to uninstall it. The reason for running for a day before installing anything else is to make the computer work really. The next day, install additional RAM, and then run the memtest86 +, which is available in the Ubuntu Linux CD or download from http://memtest.org/ A CD image "that can be burned to a CD available at: http://memtest.org/ # downiso You want to run this software for several hours, because if you have more 2 gigabytes of RAM you want the software to make multiple passes. It takes a long time to run to the tune of various test patterns in one pass, but this so you will know if the RAM or the computer is good or not. Then you want to install anti-malware software, basically anti-virus, anti-spyware and a firewall. Are available various types, the team can have one of them pre-installed. That's a big link "Bobe" gave you, and warns the power supply is not adequate to support graphics card to install. If you are decided to replace the graphics card, then you will need to uninstall the drivers and software for your graphics card, then remove the graphics card, then EVGA card installed, then install the drivers and software from the CD. You can get updated drivers later on the Internet. I suggest getting an external hard drive to back up your data, just copy or move files to folders on the external hard drive, this will help keep the disorder accumulate on the hard disk. In addition, most external hard drives come with backup software. I have never used the backup software as I can create "disk images" with True Image and Acronis boot from your CD (never installed the software) and save the image on the external hard drive. Why an image? The software factory restore discs I mentioned above have the software + driver for your graphics card that came with the computer, not for EVGA card. You can not restore from the disks and hope things work wonderfully with a different graphics card. Any additional software not installed will be in the restore discs, and if you pay for the software, which can be a huge hassle trying to reinstall. With a disk image of your new settings with different hardware, just restore the good image above and be operational again. It's a great way to recover from an infestation of crimeware. The other problem with the factory restore disks is the junkware has to be removed again. You can then go on the Internet for critical updates for Windows and updates to the anti-malware software.

Help! Problems with printer and Windows Vista.?

I bought a new computer about 6 weeks ago that has vista on it, I plugged in my printer and it worked fine. I get up this morning and its saying its offline. I cant find the problem with it. Its plugged in and the lights are on. Its set as my default printer. Connected to USB port.
